Shaabi Street dance is a new dance in Egypt called Mahrganat Sha’abi. It emerged from post revolution youth culture and is characterized by a blend of indigenous folklore movements and modern hip hop styling. It is a high energy dance with powerful movements that are heavily based in rhythms, and take their gestural cues from the lyrics of the cutting edge Egyptian electro sha’abi music.
This dance became more widespread in Egypt especially in popular areas and began to spread around the world. Many dancers became interested in learning the moves and steps; come learn them for yourself!
Experience is not necessary but it is helpful. Students can expect to have fun and learn about another culture!
