Join us for an afternoon of happy and energetic Nubian-style folkloric dance!
Nubian dance originates in an extremely hot region between Egypt and the Sudan, which is why the traditional costuming is so distinctive (long light and colorful galabeyas, to help deflect heat and protect from the sun). The music is very rich and rhythmic, leading to soft, simple joyful movements.
Learn movement repertoire and combinations drawing from the Aswan regions surrounding Aswan, Egypt. Mohamed will teach the basic steps, expressions and how to use the Nubian veil on your head.
All levels are welcome. Please bring a veil and a long neck scarf scarf (and barrettes or hairbands to attach the veil to your hair).
